Southern border counties face a “serious threat to their homes and lives” due to a jump in armed Mexican drug trafficking attacks. This is the dire assessment of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).
Abbott used a nationally televised interview to blame President Joe Biden and his Democratic border policies for causing immigration chaos.
The governor claims drug traffickers from Mexico have been granted unrestricted entry to the United States. Mexican cartels have also opened fire on National Guard troops in Texas who struggle to contain the immigration crisis.
“Cartels on the Mexican side of the border, they are beginning to open fire on the National Guard that Texas has down on the border to secure the border,” he said according to Fox News. “This is escalating into a firing war on each side of the border where Texas and our National Guard are having to defend themselves and defend the state of Texas.”
Abbott is very concerned for the safety of civil servants at the border and hundreds of thousands of Americans living in the area.
Biden’s open border policies have led to massive waves of illegal immigrants.
“The Biden administration has completely abandoned all the people who live on the border, and they have abandoned people in the state of Texas,” Abbott said according to the broadcaster.
He compared the present chaos to the Trump administration’s time, which implemented “all the policies that led to the largest reduction in border crossings.”
“Now, we are seeing the highest number of cross-border crossings,” he said. “It is all because of the catastrophic open border policies by the Biden administration, and we are seeing more and more people come in.”
Drug traffickers are also suspected of smuggling large amounts of fentanyl into the United States. This is blamed for causing a historic jump in addicts and young people dying from overdose.
A group of nine Republican governors visited the Rio Grande Vally border with Mexico on Oct. 6. Officials warned the border crisis was also a “drug crisis.”
“Just the amount of fentanyl apprehended just by the Texas Department of Safety just this year is more than enough to kill every man, woman and child in the states of Texas, California, and New York,” Abbott previously said.
