Many people who have faith are not surprised by the confirmation of stories and narratives from sacred texts by scientific research. When the content of these stories, which have been passed down through their faith are verified, it brings believers a great sense of confidence.

Many scientific endeavors have focused on illuminating historical events reported in the Bible, and a few have made skeptics acknowledge their real basis.

One of the reasons why this type of research can be very challenging has to do with the conjunctural nature of its possible results. In the first place, researchers have to deal with the possible animosity of those who are in favor of or against a belief. Their findings can trigger great controversies, independently of the investigative facts.

Secondly, there is the true nature of research to consider, because it can serve the purposes of either side. This also means that from the outset, there can be a possible investigative bias and resulting ethical and moral complications. However, in the midst of all these contradictions and motives of varying degrees of honesty, there are scientists who embark on research into matters of faith and succeed in getting answers.

The Ark of Noah is one of those biblical enigmas that has long attracted the attention of the scientific community, thanks to a large number of coincidences that support the occurrence of such an event.

Mount Ararat.

Recently there was a symposium of experts in Turkey who gathered to debate the exact place where the Ark could be found. According to the opinion of the experts, the vessel may be located on Mount Ararat, located in Turkey, which has an altitude of 5,166 meters (16,949 feet).

This mountain has often been the object  of speculations about being the final resting place of the boat that may have saved many of the Earth’s species. An expedition carried out in 2010 shed some light on the subject thanks to a study that corroborated a carbon dating of wood fragments in the area to about 4,800 years old.

The date from carbon testing coincides with the era in which the boat could have been used.

Raul Esperante, a member of the Geoscience Institute, claimed that the results offered a certain degree of veracity to the discoveries, while nonetheless asserting the ongoing need for rigorous scientific work. The researcher added: “My hypothesis is that visiting the sites around the mountain could help locate proofs of catastrophic events from the past.”

Recently many of the historical references and facts recorded in the Bible and other religious texts have been accorded a certain importance in the scientific community. This new discovery, in turn, could lead to a clearer vision of these events.

At the end of the day, we find ourselves in a world that seems to be governed by arbitrary principles, accepted by the scientific community, where chance prevails over determinism. However, what underlies these principles?

As Einstein said: “God does not play dice with the universe.” The fact of finding the potential remains of an ark of these dimensions more than 4,000 meters high, on the top of a mountain and so far from the sea, does not seem to be the result of chance.
